Violent Crime Defense Attorneys

There are hundreds of assaultive crimes. Below are a few of the violent crimes that are most often used in Michigan.

  • Murder
  • Domestic Assault
  • Assault & Battery
  • Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Felonious Assault)
  • Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm less than Murder (Assault GBH)
  • Child Abuse
  • Vulnerable Adult Abuse
  • Assault by Strangulation or Suffocation
  • Torture

Please note that this is only a partial list of violent crimes in Michigan. There are many more. They present particular challenges because in all of these crimes there will be a victim. The victim (actually correctly labeled as a complainant) will have alleged they have been assaulted in some manner by another. The victim in a crime of violence and their family will be emotionally charged against the accused. They will be pushing police and prosecutors to aggressively pursue the accused and generally seeking maximum punishment.

At the same time, the one who is being accused of the violent crime and their family will be emotionally charged in the opposite direction. The penalties for these crimes are generally more severe and the accused and their family will feel acute stress.

It is at these emotional times an accused needs an experienced criminal defense attorney to help make good decisions as they proceed through the investigation and/or criminal process. These cases can be very delicate to handle. When negotiating crimes of violence the accused will need an attorney who knows when to tread lightly and when it is time pursue the case aggressively.
