OVERVIEW
Robert W. Drake brings more than 13 years of criminal defense experience to Hills at Law, P.C. He has dedicated his legal career to defending individuals facing serious criminal charges across Southwest Michigan. Since 2012, he has served as a Cass County Public Defender, where he has represented clients in cases ranging from misdemeanors to high-severity and capital felonies. His trial experience and deep commitment to justice have earned him a reputation as a steady, skilled advocate both in and out of the courtroom.
Before joining Hills at Law, Robert operated his own private practice, where he built a strong foundation in criminal defense and client advocacy. His approach is rooted in compassion, preparation, and respect for every individual’s right to be heard — qualities that align closely with Hills at Law’s core values: Heart, Help, and Grit.

In addition to his courtroom experience, Robert served as an Adjunct Professor at Western Michigan University’s College of Health and Human Services, where he taught “Legal Issues in Health and Human Services” from 2009 to 2012.
COMMUNITY AND EARLY CAREER
Robert’s career began in education and social services, working as an art teacher, paraprofessional, and residential trainer for youth and adults with disabilities. These experiences continue to shape his perspective as a defense attorney — reminding him daily that every client’s story matters.
